Avril's Hansel GretelAvril Neagle is a both a local practicing artist and active member of our group, producing fine art prints and paper cuts based on traditional European techniques. Avril exhibits her work in the fabulous Heaton Moor deli, Pokuveski’s on Shaw Road, who support our Trail and have commissioned Avril to produce one of her lovely papercuts for their shop and cafe.

Some community news….

Mary's floristOur lovely local independent florist, Mary’s, is 40 years young today! Mary has been beavering away with all things floral (and even a few fairies…..!) from the same premises for four decades, right by the station. The cabins have undertaken a much needed face lift over the years; originally there was a row of small units incorporating a cake shop and a cab firm. Mary took over one other unit and expanded some time ago and since the Friends of Heaton Chapel station have made a great campaign in making the nearby path and land much more aesthetic.
A high point recently was meeting the Queen and presenting her with a bouquet.
Mary is an active helper in promoting our Trail, giving out leaflets and telling people about our events and work and is hosting a celebratory party today in her shop.
Pop along and say hello!

Savoy Cinema

Savoy CinemaOur local independent cinema, The Savoy, has been under threat of closure (or worse) for some time as the owners struggle to keep this vital community point open and thriving. The latest very real advance came from a developer who wants to take over this historic building and convert to apartments. One can sympathize in such a lucrative district but the groundswell of local opinion wants to transform the Savoy in to a local arts centre. Most recently, our band of local Councillors unanimously voted to back this idea and (for now) we are assured a certain step on the next stage of the ladder……
Your support on social media and mailing would assist this process if you agree and believe that our community can really pull this off……!

Market Day

sharon moor mag 2The local monthly market in Heaton Moor is a bustling vibe of activity with many and varied stalls selling great food, crafts and plants. From very humble beginnings this is now thriving monthly meet for local families and visitors from further affield as well as being a great place to showcase and highlight local issues. A sustainable living group lobby here as well as various Friends groups and a new initiative to launch our local independent Savoy Cinema as an arts centre.
The first Sunday of the month will see Shaw Road closed to traffic and an eclectic mix gather in a great community spirit; this Sunday you will also find Heatons Arts Trail promoting our club and the Trail generally with a great clutch of forthcoming diary events……
